Statement of Intent

My panel documents the sport of road bowling which takes place on open country roads, in all sorts of weather and lighting conditions and is played with a 28 ounce solid iron ball. I wanted to show the interest and passion that the spectators have for their very traditional and simple sport. I also wanted to show the varying techniques and the difference in athleticism of the bowlers. It was a constant battle to get a clear view of the bowler as I jostled with spectators who were also intent in seeing the action. The bowler moves fast and the bowl faster still. Many photographs were taken at high ISO in order to maintain a high shutter speed. I had to deal with a constantly changing environment and relinquish control to be able to anticipate opportunities to capture the action of the bowlers and the crowd.
