Cian O’Mahony’s Associateship Panel Statement
I have always had a love for sandy beaches. Usually, this was simply as a foreground to capturing a larger scene, however, I have become fascinated with observing the natural processes forming the beaches themselves.
Standing alone on a secluded beach, watching a retreating tide reveal these natural patterns taking place in front of me, instil me with a sense of wonder. The slow waters carrying fine sands away, winding their way slowly to the sea, between rounded rocks and down shallow slopes are captured by my eager lens.
As time progresses, more subtle patterns emerge as the tide departs and higher up the beach, patterns from older higher tides are also revealed.
These images convey a sense of my fascination with beaches and the natural events unfolding on them.
